AMAZONLIFE

A journey through the largest rainforest on the planet in which water acts as the narrating voice following the three main rivers: the Amazon, the Rio Negro and the Rio Xingù. The atmosphere is dark and the skies are leaden, nature bears signs of unforgiving deforestation. The journey ends in a remote village inhabited by the surviving native Mebengokre tribe, "the people who came from the water". The images are stark and unmanipulated so as to directly express the surprise, welcome and acceptance into the natural and cultural context of the place through powerfully evocative portraits in the half-shadows, the material physicality of the body art, the dense and unpredictable interplay of light and reflection in the Amazon forest.
